The Magic in Science (MIS) workshop is one of the interactive programmes under Karnival Jom Sains 2026 (KJS 2026), designed to introduce primary school students to science through fun and engaging hands-on experiments. The workshop combines creativity and scientific exploration, allowing participants to better understand fundamental concepts through guided activities conducted by experienced facilitators. MIS will be held on 15 and 16 April 2026.Participation is open to primary school students only, with a maximum of four participants per group.
The workshop features four mini-experiments: Cyanotype: Art in Plant, Litar Doh!, Elephant Toothpaste dan DIY pH Card which each highlighting key concepts in Chemistry, Biology and Physics thus through this structured yet enjoyable approach, students gain meaningful exposure to real scientific applications in a safe laboratory environment.
Cyanotype: Art in Plant
The cyanotype experiment is an art and science activity that combines the concept of chemical reactions with sunlight. Through exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, a special chemical solution undergoes a color change and produces a blue image. This activity helps students understand the effects of light on chemicals while encouraging creativity in science learning.
Litar Doh! (Dough Circuit!)
Dough Circuit! is an activity that introduces the concept of electrical circuits using conductive and insulating dough. Through this activity, students can build simple circuits while understanding the flow of electric current in a fun and safe way.
Elephant Toothpaste
The Elephant Toothpaste experiment is a chemical reaction demonstration that produces a large amount of foam. This reaction occurs when hydrogen peroxide decomposes with the help of a catalyst. The activity helps students understand the concept of an exothermic reaction and the role of catalysts in chemical reactions.
DIY pH Card
The DIY pH Card activity aims to introduce the concept of acids and alkalis using natural materials as pH indicators. Students will create their own pH cards and use them to test the acidity or alkalinity of various substances. This activity makes learning chemistry more interactive and easier to understand.
